Introduction to Estate Planning

People often think that "estate planning" is only for the rich or the old. But estate planning is simply ensuring that a plan is in place for our eventual incapacity or death, whether expected or sudden. It also can include taking certain actions during life to save on taxes and reduce the difficulty of settling our estate after we pass away. All estate plans should include a Will. Most also should include a Durable Power of Attorney and an Advance Medical Directive. Sometimes a Trust is also beneficial.

Who should have an estate plan? Anyone who is married, has one or more children, or owns any significant amount of assets should certainly have one. Even a younger single person with limited assets could benefit from a simple plan. At Beiler Legal Services, our goal is to provide you with the plan that is the best fit for you, and to ensure it is understandable and affordable for you. Wise planning, for both life and death, is a key part of being a good steward, and we would be honored to assist you with this part of your stewardship journey.
